Raygun Gothic Vase

Made for a reddit woodturning challenge, but it was styled this way because I think it will match most of the things in the guest bedroom, which is getting quite space-aged. The box itself was fairly straightforward to make. Rather than turning a flat plate out of a 8x8x3 board, I put it on its side, cut out the rough details, and finished it on the lathe. I couldn't quite finish the underside: The wood was so hard (and the grain so uneven) that it chipped out on me a couple of times. I didn't want to risk breaking off one of the wings, so the underside has a few rough places that I couldn't sand out. Still, a good result and a fun project.
