Freelance work
I had to pause on my personal projects tonight because I got a rush design / fabrication request from a client. It still counts as making something, I suppose. It’s for fixing a kitchen appliance. Most companies would rather sell you a new machine than the part required to fix it, and so resourceful people have to look elsewhere. I hope someday the 3D printers & hackers of the world can build up a parts database for every piece of consumer plastic. I do a lot of plastics design work professionally, and I always push to provide replacement parts or a computer file for someone to make a part on their own machine.
I can’t say too much about this part, nor can I share it. It doesn’t belong to me. Confidentiality is important in the prototyping business. I’m comfortable releasing a photo of this, though, because it’s a copy of a consumer design and not an original idea. So, with that, I’ll resume my experiment tomorrow. See you then!
